María Gordon
BIO
Basque Country. A self-taught artist, she lives and works in Galicia. She holds a degree in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid (2016) and completed a Master’s degree in Graphic Design at Trazos, Madrid (2017).
She creates silent narratives inhabited by creatures and landscapes from other worlds. Her work draws on the beech forests where she grew up, the grey Cantabrian Sea, and memories of childhood, alongside a Catholic upbringing and echoes of folklore and paganism. Watercolour is her primary medium; for several years, she has expanded her illustrations into three dimensions through dioramas, articulated paper figures, dolls, and peep shows, transforming the personal into a realm of myths and stories.
Her work has been shown in My Haunted Dollhouse (Chicken Shop Hermits, London), Child’s Play (Norman Rea Gallery, University of York, 2024), Once Upon a Nightmare (Curio Art Gallery, Lisbon, 2025), and A Childhood Forest (Quirky Fox, Hāwera, 2025). In 2025, her work was featured in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Issue 48.
